Born in Shermerville, Il., he was a graduate of the Chicago Kent College of law and moved to Oklahoma City in 1905. The following year he became a justice of the peace. In 1908 he began a two terrm tenure as superior court judge, was elected district judge for two terms, and retired from the bench in 1922. Entering private practice he practiced law until he retired in 1937.
Judge Oldfield past master of the lodge, was an active member of Masonic lodge 36. He was a member of First Methodist Episcopal Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Edith Lenora Oldfield, home address, three sons, Edward d. Oldfield, jr, 2141 NW 35; Lt. Col. John B. Oldfield, stationed in Hawaii; Lt. Col. W. B. Oldfield, China, both in the Marines; one daughter, Mrs. Clarivel Elizabeth Peters, Okmulgee; his brother W. A. Oldfield, and his sister, Miss Emma Oldfield both of Chicago.
