A Life Remembered ~ Annatje Smith Haring
Annatje was almost 98 years of age when she died.
Though we see the spelling on the headstone as Annautye, it is believed that the correct spelling of this Dutch name should be Annatje.
Her grandson, James Smith Haring II 1855-1922 purchased a large burial plot in Rockland Cemetery, Sparkill, New York.
In 1887, James transferred Anna from Tappan Cemetery in Tappan, Rockland County, New York to it's current resting place in Section C in Rockland Cemetery in Sparkill, New York.
Her husband Daniel Haring was also relocated. His first headstone can still be found in Clausland Cemetery in Orangeburg, New York.
When James Smith Haring Jr 1855-1922 relocated the bodies, the death date of Daniel changed by a day.
As you can see from above...the Annatje was incorrectly spelled as well. The 'tje' at the end of the name sounds like 'cha'...so the name is anna "cha" in sounding.
