Robert Bringhurst, Enlisted at Clarksville, Tennessee on 12/24/1861 as 3rd Sergeant, Co. A. 49th Tennessee Infantry for 1 year. February 16, 1862 captured at Ft. Donelson, Tennessee and sent to Camp Douglas, Illinois as a POW. September 20, 1862 exchanged back to regiment at Vicksburg, Mississippi. October 12, 1862 promoted to 1st Sgt. July 1, 1863 appointed as Acting Sgt. Major and later promoted to same. July 28, 1864 wounded severely in the leg at Atlanta, Georgia. Treated in a local hospital and then given a Medical furlough. Mortally wounded at Franklin, Tennessee on November 30, 1864 and died of is wounds in a Franklin Confederate hospital on December 7, 1864.
