In 1822, Cynthia was sent to Elyria Ohio, from West Springfield MA to tend to the needs of Mrs. Heman Ely, who was suffering from loneliness and depression. It was in Elyria where she met James Porter and married him on May 21, 1828. They had a daughter Elizabeth, born in 1830. James died in 1833 at the age of 31. She remarried Dr Hiram Fay Hubbard Jan 27, 1836. They had 4 children and sometime after 1850, they moved to Wisconsin. Her husband Hiram died in 1865. She moved to Colorado with her children after 1870 and lived in Longmont.

Cynthia's first daughter Elizabeth was the mother-in-law to a 2 time Governor of Ohio, and Ambassador to France Myron T Herrick, who greeted Charles Lindbergh on his flight across the ocean.
