Betty W. Phelps, 79, passed away April 16, 2002, in a Jacksonville hospital. She was a native of Cambria, Pa., and formerly of Norfolk. She was a retired secretary in transportation with CSX railroad and a member of Lakewood United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Phelps is survived by her husband of 55 years, Bernard A. Phelps; a daughter, Carol Napier and husband Morris of Jacksonville; two sons, Bernard Phelps Jr. and wife Alice of Jacksonville and Michael A. Phelps and wife Beth of Orlando, Fla.; a brother, Harry M. Wilkerson Jr.; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Abreu; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Col. Dennis A. Phelps.
A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Forest Lawn Cemetery with the Rev. Phyllis Earley officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel.
