Gerald "Shorty" R. Larson, Sr., 84, of Cumberland died June 14. Funeral services were Thursday morning at the Skinner Funeral Home in Cumberland with the Rev. Tim Schmidt officiating and burial in Lakeside Cemetery.

Mr. Larson was born Nov. 30, 1925 in Cumberland to Jake and Vivian (Froat) Larson. He grew up in the Section 10 area and attended Section 10 School. He farmed for a few years, then joined the military during World War II and served in Italy and Europe. Mr. Larson later farmed in the Cumberland area. He married Vera Anderson on Aug. 6, 1947 in Pine City, Minn., and they were later divorced. He worked at 3M and Stokely and then worked on the pipe line for 35 years until his retirement. He also dehorned cattle for more than 50 years. Mr. Larson continued farming until his death.

He is survived by his former wife, Vera of Rice Lake; six sons, Paul of Ringold, Okla., Joe and Gene, both of Cumberland, Dan of Wakonda, S.D., Gerald Jr. of Rice Lake and Jim of Almena; three daughters, Lois Benson of Fairbanks, Alaska, Sandie Merry of Cumberland and Judy Boettcher of Rice Lake; 27 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Carol White of Cumberland
