Born 1864, Trenton, N. J.; family removed to Oregon same year; father, Thomas L. Kay, founded and built up Brownsville Woolen Mills and son worked in business; three years at McMinnville College; in mercantile business McMinnville 1885-95; councilman, school director. Married Cora M. Wallace of McMinnville, 1895, and removed to Salem, becoming assistant manager of Thomas Kay Woolen Mills, of which he became president upon his father's death in 1900; elected representative 1902, 1904; senate, 1906; state treasurer 1910 and 1914; member Y.M.C.A. board 20 years; trustee Willamette University; served as director and president Salem Board of Trade; director State Chamber of Commerce; active in State Manufacturers' Association and many other state-wide and local organizations

Obituary, Oregon Statesman, Salem Oregon Thursday, April 30, 1931: Thomas B. Kay died at the residence 825 Court Street, April 28, at 11:58 p.m., age 67; husband of Cora M.; father of Ercel W. Kay and Mrs. Hollis Huntington; brother of Mrs. Lenore Kay Roberts of Portland and Mrs. C.P. [Fannie] Bishop of Salem. Funeral services Thursday, April 30, at 2 p.m. from the First Christian church, Rev. D.J. Howe officiating.

He was president of the Kay Woolen Mill, 1900-1931, and also served in the Oregon Legislature. He was State Treasurer for three terms, 1910-1918 and 1924-1931.
