Joseph Marion Reeves was born November 1, 1855 at Union, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. He was a son of Charles and Catherine Cooper Reeves.

At the age of 33 years he was united in marriage to Mary N. Zeigler at Springview, Keya Paha County, Nebraska by the first county judge of Keya Paha County. To this union six children were born. One died in infancy. The others are Marion J., Mrs. Josie O. Kast, Rexford D., Mrs. Iva L. Heiden, and Prudence A. Their homes are all in Keya Paha County.

Mr. Reeves had lived in Keya Paha County for over 50 years. His life on earth ended on the 30th day of May, 1935, at the age of 79 years, 6 months and 23 days. He leaves his wife and five children, three grandsons, Lowell and Wilber Kast and Artie W. Heiden; one brother of Eugene, Oregon and one sister of Kearney, Nebraska, David D. Reeves and Martha J. Brucks.

His sons served in the World War. His father died in the Civil War. He was a loving father and loved all his family dearly and believed in God.

The songs he sang were sung by the Rev. Critchet, wife and son, and music by Mrs. Howard Hallock. The funeral services were held at the Union Church, conducted by Rev. Critchett, and he was laid to rest in the Union Cemetery on June 2.
