George E. Reed, Sr., 90, of Morton, formerly of Deer Creek, passed away at 5:57 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

He was born Oct. 12, 1921, in Mounds City, Ill., to Roy A. and Grace (Duckworth) Reed. He married Sarah E. Malone in 1941 in Missouri. She preceded him in death in 1997. He also was preceded in death by one sister.

Surviving are three daughters, Patricia (John) Schmitt of Morton, Shirley (Ray) Finn of Dundas, Ill., and Joyce Reed of McHenry, Ill.; one son, George E. (Jane) Reed, Jr. of Kearney, Mo.; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Thomas Lonas of Florida.

He was a World War II Army veteran.

George was employed at Caterpillar Inc. for 36 years, retiring as a head mechanic and technician at the Demonstration Facility in Edwards, Ill., in 1986.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at OSF St. Francis Medical Center who took great care of George in the Intensive Care Unit.

Private family services will be held. There will be no visitation. Burial will be at Mount Zion Cemetery in Deer Creek.
