Bio for Cyrus
C. L. Pinkerton was born in Halifax, Dauphin Co., PA, and later moved to Tremont, Schuylkill Co., PA, where he set up a private school with pupils paying him tuition. When the school closed due to the opening of a public school, he studied law and was admitted to the bar, being a leading lawyer of the county. He was elected to the legislature for one term (1859-60) and was a candidate for congress in later years. He was appointed by Governor Curtis as Colonel on his staff during the Civil War, and raised a regiment for the war, but he never entered the army himself, his brother, Joseph substituting for him, as he was needed as a home guard. He moved to Rantoul IL in 1879 and died there the next year. His wife, Fannie Allsinger, died there in 1884. They had seven children; Margaret Ellen; Sadie; Francis Elmore; Alice L.; Edward E.; Jennie, and Bertram Eugene.

Bio supplied by R. Pinkerton

This bio is based upon an autobiography written by a son of Cyrus in 1933, eg., Frank Elmore Pinkerton. I am sending two pages of this to you in a separate Email with attachments.

I sent a note to the person who posted the tombstone photo to ask him is he was sure this was from the Rantoul Cem. Reason? Because a Helen Pinkerton (member of this clan) told me she sighted Cyrus' grave at the Tremont Methodist Church Cem. So, presently, the burial site is still up in the air.
