Bailey Rites Wednesday
Bedfast since he suffered a stroke 3 1/2 years ago, William E.(Ed) Bailey, 71 for many years an employe of the Snowden-Mize Drug Co., died yesterday at his home 1504 South Seventh Street.
Funeral services will be held at the Sawin & Douglass chapel at 2 p.m. Wednesday, the Rev Harold Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Vernon Cemetery.
Pall bearers will be Jack Ellis, Harry Van Liew, Jack Patton, Harry Scott, Arnold Keene and Clarence Little.
Born April 12 1878, a son of John A and Louise Bailey of East Atchison, he lived his entire life in this community. After farming several yars in the East Atchison vicinity, he was employed by teh Steinite Radio Co before beginning his long service with Snowdern-Mize, where he was stricken on the job.
On Dec 31, 1907, he married Miss Lorean McKinney at St. Joseph, and they went to housekeeping in East Atchison, where they lived until moving to Atchison 17 years ago. During his long illness he received the constant and loving care of Mrs. Bailey. He was a member of the Christian church.
After his stroke he was unable to speak, but could hear well and enjoyed his radio, especially sporting events. He rarely missed a broadcast of his favorite teams in baseball, football and basketball.
Besides his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Gladys Suttlief, Mrs. Robert Coleman, Mrs. Floyd Simpson, Atchison, Mrs. John Sharp, Colorado Springs, Colo, a son William E (Bill) Bailey of the home; nine granchildren and a brother J.S. (Samp) Bailey , Sugar Lake.
