HERBERT BETTS: 75; D'Moines, died of cancer Saturday [5-13] at IA Luthern Hosp. Born in Cambridge, he moved to D'Moines in 1930 to join his father Jerry, in Betts & Son Hardware Store, a 50yr-old east-side business that now will be run by Bett's sons: Clark & Reed. Betts a graduate of the University of Washington, served 3yrs in the Marine Corps & was past president of the Izaak Walton League. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge-370 & Za-Ga-Zig Shrine.
Survivors include his wife Beulah; 2 sons: Reed & Clark, a step-son: Harold Carlisle-all D'Moines; 2 bros: Clark-Albany OR & William-Eugene OR; 2 sis: Darlene Nelson & June Marona-LongBeach CA; 5 grandchildren, 13 step-grandchildren & several step-gr grandchildren.
Service will be Tuesday [5-16] at Hamiltons Funrl Home, burial in Highland Memory Gardns.
