She is the daughter of Greenberry W. Slaughter (1852-1911) and Nancy Ann Murphy (1858-1883). She had two full siblings: Emma Alice Slaughter Grist Austin (1879-1959) and Joe Berry Slaughter (1882-1952). She had five half-siblings by her father's second wife, Martha Walls: Elizabeth Ann Slaughter Brummett (1887-1967), George Marion Slaughter (1888-1968), Lucy C. Slaughter (b. 1891), John William Slaughter (b. 1893), and Henry Isom Slaughter (1896-1921). She was born and lived all of her life in and around Randolph,Pontotoc County, MS.
