John Scruggs after a short illness, died at his residence, near Town Creek, on the 23rd of January, 1884, at 1:40 a.m., his age was 77 years, 1 month and 15 days. He was born in the State of Virginia; at an early age moved to Williamson county, Tennessee, and at the age of 18 years moved to Alabama, and had been a citizen of the State nearly sixty years. He was married to Elizabeth E. Manning on February 22, 1832.
