George Blake Cunningham was the son of Suzanne Gamache (1898-__) who was born in France, and John Blake Cunningham (1891-__), born in Pennsylvania.

He married Kathryn Ann Kidwell (1922-1998) on October 25, 1941, at the Methodist Church, Sebastopol, California.

Kathryn and George were divorced in 1948.

George served in World War II as a Flight Captain in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel after also serving in Korea. Later in his career, he flew the Convair B-36 'Peacemaker' with the 7th Bomb Wing at Fort Worth Army Air Field which later became Carswell Air Force Base.
