Charles inlisted into the U.S. Army on May 29, 1918 in Akron, Ohio. He served with Co. I, 10th Replacemant Regiment untill July 13, 1918 and switched to Co. F, 47th Infantry on August 14, 1918. He was serving with the American Expeditionary Forces when he was killed in action on Oct. 16, 1918 at the age of 25. He was the son of Charles and Mary Pfeil who, at the time, lived at 644 W. Thornton St. Akron, Ohio. His father had died in 1906. His mother lived on untill 1948.
