It might be that Patrick is the son of Anne Murphy and bernard mcdermott (born in 1794) and not this bernard mcdermott.
The two Bernards are from the same small village in ireland. Indeed they are from the same townland. Probably nephew and uncle but not 100% sure. I know bernard mcdermott born in 1794 wed in 1829 and that his son patrick emigrated around the time of the famine in 1847. Three of his brothers also emigrated. Their names were James, Michael and John.

On Thursday morning, Sept. 24, Bernard McDermott, one of the earliest settler of Kendall, departed this life at the advanced age of 79 years. Mr. McDermott was in the true sense of the word, a christian gentleman and possessed those sterling qualities which never fail to command esteem and respect. In him the people of Kendall mourn the loss of an upright citizen and the congregation of the Immaculate Conception a faithful member.
His funeral took place on Saturday, Sept. 26, and a large concourse of people in attendance gave evidence of the high esteem in which he was held. The last solemn rite of his new church were pronounced by his pastor, Rev. M.B. Norton, who in few appropriate words, recommended the virtues of the deceased. His remains were interred in the Catholic cemetery at Kendall, but his memory will long remain seen in the minds of those who knew him. His bereaved wife and family have the sincere sympathy of the whole community.
