His mother and father were indeed bernard mcdermott (born 1794) and Anne Murphy. No birth cert/dead cert for Anne because registration of same only commenced here in 1864. Reckon she was dead prior to 1864. Bernard from the annies and Anne from corracken(both townlands in scotshouse and about three mile apart)
I know that John was born in the annies near scotshouse village (the parish is known as Currin). I even know the lands were John was born. His sister Anne (called after their mother) is my great grandmother. She was born in 1845 and died in 1917.

Died, at his home in Kendall, Monday, Oct. 15, John B. McDermott, aged 55 years. The last rites were conducted by Father Theilen and were attended by the largest concourse of friends ever assembled in the county to do honor to a departed brother. Deceased was born in County Monaghan Ireland in 1839, coming to this country in 1855 when 16 years of age. He lcoated in New Diggings, remaining but a short time. In 1860 he went to the gold fields of California, remaining in that state and Idaho 6 years. He returned to Kendall in 1866 and located on the place on which he died.
In 1866 he was married in Shullsburg to Alice Gough who survives him. By her he was blessed with a family of eight children, two of whom a boy and a girl precede him to that land of bliss. He is survived by two brothers, James, Nebraska and Patrick in Kendall also by one brother and two sisters in his native place.
Deceased, although in the prime of his life and apparently having many years of life before him, had for some time been ailing but not to such a degree as to alarm himself or family, and the dread summons came like a bolt of lightening from a clear sky. Just as he settled in a comfortable home surrounded by hosts of friends, ready to enjoy a well earned competence, he is called by that Master he always strove to serve so faithfully.
