He is the son of John Pettit Glover and Susan Dunmead of Ontario, Canada. He married Hulda M. Gooden March 21, 1870.

Michigan Civil War Volunteer Registries:
Glover, Joel (Veteran), St. Clair County. Enlisted in company G. Tenth Infantry, on Oct. 29, 1861, at Memphis, for 3 years, age 18. Mustered Feb. 6, 1862. Re-enlisted Feb. 6, 1864, at Rossville, Ga. Mustered Feb. 16, 1864. Deserted at Detroit, Mich., April 12, 1864.

Cause of Death: Murdered ~ Joel died while he was working in a lumber camp on the farm of Arron Bliss to make mine props at the Haney Camp. His body was found in a manger of the mining stable.
