Elmer Gieselman, son of Paul and Molly (Krugman) Gieselman, was born March 29, 1917 southwest of Bloomfield, NE in the Fairview area. He, with his three brothers, and one sister, grew up on the farm.
Elmer graduated from Crockett School, northwest of Bloomfield. During the early years the family were members of the Golgotha Lutheran Church.
For several years Elmer worked on the farm of John Steckling before leaving for the service February 1941. He spent four and a half years in the service with basic training in California and Washington. The next three years were spent with the 40th Division of the 185th Infantry in Hawaii, the South Pacific and the Philippine Islands.
When returning from the service, Elmer married Irene Mumm on March 15, 1946 at First Trinity Lutheran Church.
Irene, daughter of Hans and Ida (Hansen) Mumm, was born northwest of Bloomfield in the Lindy area on March 15, 1922. Irene's family owned a grocery store at Lindy where she helped.
