Born 17 Jul 1854 to Timothy Edgerton Carrington (b. Kentucky) and Elizabeth G. Carrington (b. Virginia), and died on 29 Sep 1856. During Ann's lifetime, the family resided between Columbia and Shaws Flat. Her father was a miner. Ann had an older brother, Asa Timothy Carrington, who was born on 17 Sep 1845 in Wisconsin, and died on 11 Sep 1855.

In 1850, Timothy set out for California, leaving Elizabeth and Asa at home in Grant County, Wisconsin. Staying with them was Virginia Carrington and her daughter, Julia. All four of them eventually moved to California.

Timothy and Elizabeth had more children: George McClain Carrington was born about 1857; Kate was born about 1860; Walter S. about 1862; Albert Lee about 1865.

In the late 1870s, the family moved to Yokohl Valley at Mineral King near the Kaweah River in Tulare County, California, where they farmed and raised stock.

In the late 1880s, George was a grocer in Stockton, while around that time, Walter was a clerk in Alameda County.
