"Mary Pet [Neal] (1840-1908) in 1868 married Crawford D. Sledge (1825-1896) and they lived all of their lives as farmers on his Dan River farm in North Caswell near Providence. They are buried in the Sledge Cemetery near the farm. They had seven children. Two [Pattie and Dora] died young, three [William, Mary, James] lived in Caswell until after they were grown, then moved to Mississippi for the rest of their lives. Two, Jennie and Joe, spent their lives on what had been parts of the Sledge farm."
