Born January 21, 1921 in Elmer, Missouri, she was the daughter of David Arthur and Emmalena (Perkins) Drake, who preceded her in death.
Virginia was married to Benny Martinez in Atzec, New Mexico on November 23, 1949 and to this union their son, David martinez of Tucson, Arizona and daughter, Maria Theresa Formess of San Dimas, California and son, Terry Martinez were born.
She was preceded in death by her husband and one son, Terry Martinex and one infant sister, Lora Deane Drake.
She is survived by two sisters, Louise Franks and hhusband, Richard of Elmer, Missouri and Carolyn Epperson and husband, Paul of Kansas City, Missouri; four grandchildren, Aaron Martinez of Portland, Oregon, Toby Martinez of Los Angeles, California, Heather Forness of San Dimas, California and Kimberly Martinez Alegria of Tucson, Arizona; one step great-granddaughter of Los Angeles, California.
Virginia graduated from Elmer High School and the Kirksville State Teachers College, she taught school in Knox City, Missouri and Colorado, later moving to Los Angeles, California. She was a member of the Elmer Christian Church and later she joined the Monrovia Christian Church in Monrovia, California.
Memorial services were held on Wednesday (April 21, 2010) at the Turner and Stevens Live Oak Memorial Park and Mortuary and at the Live Oak Cemetery in Monrovia, California.
