Medina, Sept. 30 - The death of George E. Allen, a well known and life long resident of this village, occurred at his home in Pearl street this morning. Last Saturday afternoon Mr. Allen was severely injured in a runaway accident and his death was caused from complications developing from his injuries.
Mr. Allen was born in Brockport, August 11, 1836, and was in his 77th year. When a small boy his father moved to Millville, when he conducted a tanning business. Later they moved to Medina and conducted a leather business. In 1862 he was married to Elnora Hunt, of Ridgeway. Shortly afterwards he enlisted in the Union army and served during the remainder of the Civil war. For several years during the early seventies he was the chief of police of this village and for more than twenty-two years served as street commissioner.
Besides his wife, he leaves a sister, Mrs. Sarah Hunt, of this village; three brothers, Harvey, of Oliver Mich.; Gilbert, of Alabama, and Randall, of Medina; two daughters, Mrs. Millie A. Rowe, of Harrisburg, and Miss May E. Allen, of this village, and three sons, Leon H. and Fred G., of Rochester, and Daniel H., of Medina.
The funeral will be held from his late home in Pearl street on Thursday afternoon.
