DIED:—At his home at Hubbell,
Neb., Samuel Arbuthnot, aged 41
years.Mr. Arbuthnot was born iu Alleghany
county, Pa., Aug. 7th, 1848,
and came to Republic county, in 1871,
taking up a homestead in Jefferson
township, which he retained possession
of till the time of his death. In
1880 he entered the mercantile business
with G. A. Burnham at Hubbell,
Neb. This partnership was dissolved
iu 1886, Mr. Burnham moving to
Belleville. Mr. Arbuthnot then formed
a partnership with H. H. Johnson,
and engaged in the stock business. He
joined the Masonic lodge of Belleville
in 1879, but had his membership transferred
to Hubbell lodge, in 1881. In
1882 Mr. Arbuthnot was married to
Miss Bailie Kelley, of Pennsylvania,
and leaves a wife aud a five year old
boy. This is the first break in a happy
home circle consisting of father,
mother, five sons, and three daughters,
in twenty-five years, The funeral
occurred yesterday, aud was conducted
by the Hubbell lodge, assisted
by a large number of the fraternity of
Belleville, who laid their brother to
rest in the Farmington cemetery. Mr.
Arbuthnot was a successful business
man, and leaves his family in comfortable
circumstances.
