October 19, 1929 Princeton, IN newspaper obituary:

John Daniel ELSFELDER, 79, passed away at 11:35 o'clock Friday (October 18, 1929) night at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Andrew Weist, 1235 South Main Street. Five years ago, Mr. ELSFELDER suffered a broken hip and since that time his health had gradually failed. He had been bedfast six weeks.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the General Baptist church in charge of Rev. J. C. Cummins, pastor of the church. Burial will be in White Church cemetery.

Surviving are: three daughters--Mrs. Andrew Weist with whom he made his home, Mrs. Calvin Straughn of this city, Mrs. John HUNT, west of Princeton: three sons, Henry ELSFELDER and Thomas ELSFELDER of this city, and Wilbur ELSFELDER of Montgomery, Ala.: twenty-one grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Libbie Orr of Cisne, Ili., and Mrs. Fidelia Decker of Grand Rapids, Mich., other relatives and many friends. His wife passed away on October 5, 1917 (her record of death has October 4, 1917)

Wilbur ELSFELDER will be unable to attend the funeral on account of the illness of his wife.

Mr. ELSFELDER was born in Ohio on August 26, 1850, the son of Mr. & Mrs. Daniel ELSFELDER. His father came to this country from France.

The decedent was a member of the Memorial Methodist church but attended the General Baptist Church. He was affiliated with the I.O.O.F. Lodge for forty-three years.

He was by occupation a carpenter. Thirty-four years ago he was tank foreman at the Southern railway shops here.

Mr. ELSFELDER resided in Princeton for the past thirty-eight years. During this time he has won a host of friends by whom he was highly regarded and respected. His passing will be mourned not only by the family circle but by all these friends as well.

Per the 1860 Census, Ohio, Wood County, Portage Township, John Daniel Elsfelder's father, Daniel Elsfelder was born in 1798 in France

In the 1900 Census, Gibson County, Patoka Township, Indiana, John Daniel Elsfelder lists his father, Daniel Elsfelder, as born in France.

To date - July 8, 2015 - have not found Daniel's wife.
