SGT US ARMY - WORLD WAR II - Awarded the Bonze Star Medal.
BINGHAM - Wallace E. Barron, 89, passed peacefully in his sleep, Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, at the Maine Veterans Home in Augusta. He was born Dec. 1, 1915, in Anson, the son of Elmer and Beryl (Moody) Barron. He graduated from Madison High School with the Class of 1934. He married Crystal Dunton June 25, 1939 in Fairfield. Wallace ran Heald Pond Camps for several years, joined the State of Maine Fish & Game Department in 1942 as a Game Warden and moved to Cherryfield in Washington County. In 1943, he entered the U.S. Army, served in Italy during World War II, received a Bronze Star with Oak cluster and was honorably discharged in 1945. Following service to his country Wallace returned to Cherryfield. In 1953, he was promoted to warden supervisor and transferred to Somerset County, where he remained until retirement in 1971.
He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Crystal (Dunton) Barron; a son, Wallace L. Barron; a brother, Raymond Barron and a son-in-law, Everett Joy. He is survived by a daughter, Diane (Barron) Priest and her husband, David Priest Jr., of Milford; two sons, Gary Barron of Damariscotta Lake, and Lyndon D. Barron and his wife, LeeAnn, of Nobleboro; a daughter-in-law, Shirley Barron of Bingham; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and a brother, Erlon Barron and his wife, Vicky, of Bellwood, Ill.
Interment will be in the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta.(Bangor Daily News 1/4/2005)
