Alan R. McCarthy of Manistee, Michigan lost his battle with cancer February 21, 2010. He was born June 27, 1927 in Thompsonville, Michigan to James McCarthy and Blanche Heaton. Alan worked 46 years as an agent for the M&NE/Chessie/CSX Railroad system. He was a member of the Elks and a Toastmaster. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Gladys Putman McCarthy; his children, Michael, Patrick and Kim; 9 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson.
Celebration of his life will be held in Northport at the United Church of Christ, July 24 at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at the Leelanau Township Cemetery.
