[Mr. Knapp offered the following resolution:
Senate Resolution No. 7-"Concerning the death of the Honorable James T. Garrett, former state senator."
WHEREAS, The Senate has learned with deep regret of the death of James T. Garrett at the age of ninety-six at his home in Dallas, Texas, on the twenty-fourth day of May, one thousand nine hundred sixty-two; and
WHEREAS, The deceased was a widely known banker, merchant, and former state senator; and
WHEREAS, The former legislator was one of the first mayors of Hurricane, West Virginia, and for many years was executive head of the Putnam County Bank at Hurricane; and
WHEREAS, He was a devoted citizen, a true fraternalist, an active Mason, and Son of the Southern Confederacy and the American Revolution; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate:
That by the adoption of this resolution, the Senate pay its final respects to the former veteran of the State Senate, whose long and valuable life was characterized by devotion to civic and political duty; and, be it
Resolved further, That the Clerk of the Senate be hereby directed to extend formal condolences from the Senate through transmittal of certified copies hereof to the members of the family of the deceased.
On motions of the same gentleman, severally made, the resolution (S. R. No. 7) was taken up for immediate consideration and adopted.]

[JAMES TALIAFERRO GARRETT, (D), of Hurricane, Putnam County, was born October 9, 1865, in that county, son of John H. and Martha A. (Hill) Garrett; educated in the public schools and summer normal schools of Lincoln County, where he resided from 1867 to 1889; married February 26, 1896, to Emma O. Dudding; Baptist; Mason; member of Lions Club, Sons of the Southern Confederacy and Sons of the American Revolution; member State Finance Committee during the World War; engaged in mercantile business in 1891; one of organizers of Putnam County Bank in 1902, serving as cashier for twenty years; now engaged in general insurance and bonding business; elected to the Senate from the Fifth District in 1932.]
