Edward Dale Aberle , 60, died Aug. 12, 2009, of stage 4 lung cancer at his home in Anchorage. A memorial service was held at Immanuel Baptist Church, 6478 Old Seward Highway. A visitation was held immediately after the service in the fellowship hall at the church. Pastor Al Tomerson officiated.

Mr. Aberle was born May 13, 1949, in Los Angeles to Daniel and Virginia Aberle . He was a high school graduate and served two years in Vietnam, from 1969 to 1971, as an Army sergeant and was awarded a Bronze Star. He moved to Anchorage in 1972. He worked at Denali Drilling from 1972 as a drilling helper until 1984, when he left his position as vice president and co-owner. He then purchased and restored the Anchorage Hotel from 1984 to 1986 and owned and operated Anchorage Upholstery from 1986 until his death. His interests included restoring vintage automobiles, collecting antiques, fishing, camping and football. "With his outgoing personality and genuine sense of humor he left a smile on the faces of everyone he encountered. He knew the value of friendship and love of family and treasured time spent with them," his family remembers.

Mr. Aberle is survived by his mother, Virginia Aberle ; his beloved wife of 40 years, Marianne Aberle ; his sister, Daryl Lynn Aberle ; his daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Danny Stelly; his nephew, Daniel Aberle ; his granddaughter, Scarlett Stelly; and his great-nephews Alerick and Garin Aberle . In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Mr. Aberle 's memory to Providence Hospice, 3435 E. Tudor Road, Anchorage 99507.
