Mary Ellen O'Connor Hazlett, 94, formerly of 106 Pomona Rd. Oak Ridge, TN died Sunday February 20, 2011 at Florida Hospital in Altamonte Springs Fl after a brief illness. She was surrounded by her family. Mary Ellen was born in Georgetown, KY to James and Anne O'Connor. She was the oldest of five children: Margaret, Pat (deceased), Cornelia (deceased), and Virginia (deceased). In 1932 she married Robert Lee Hazlett and was married until his death in 1985. She is survived by her son James Robert "Bobby" Hazlett and wife Lou of Heathrow, Fl, son Joseph Lee Hazlett and wife Maria of Miami Beach, Fl and daughter Cecelia Ann Norris and husband Ricky of Key West, Fl. "Dudah" was the proud grandmother of nine grandchildren, James "Jimbo" (deceased), John, Dawn (deceased), Carlos, Lisa, Hazel, Brigit, Michael and Gretchen and five great grandchildren, Alfredo, Katrina, Alexandria, Gabriel and Erin. She also was truly blessed to be very close to her great-great granddaughter, Liliana. Mary Ellen is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Mary Ellen worked at Union Carbide as a Communications Supervisor until her retirement in 1979. She was an avid traveler and loved to say she had "gypsy blood" in her. This was a trait she passed on to all her children and grandchildren and was able to enjoy many trips all over the world with her family. Mary Ellen also loved her annual trips to Florida and continued to drive herself until she was 85. She loved having her "Wheels" until later in life. In 2004, she finally decided to relocate to Florida to be closer to her family. Her family will miss her very much.
The family will receive friends Sunday, February 27, 2011 from 5 � 7pm at Weatherford Mortuary. A funeral mass will be held on Monday at 10am at St. Mary�s Catholic Church, where she was a long-time member. Rev. Jorge Cano will officiate.
