CURTIS -- BGen Donald, USMC (Ret.), age 101, died at his Coronado home on Thursday 19 March, 1998. A native of Cape May, N.J. and a San Diego County resident of 51 years, he graduated from the USNA in 1917 with the Class of 1918. Before death, oldest USNA graduate and oldest living USMC Officer. He served in WWI and WWII. Had duties in US, Hawaii and China posts and stations and aboard USS New York and USS Houston as a Marine Detachment Commander. C.O. 2d Bn, 4th Marines (1940) and Ex.O. that of 13 years, Eleanor Spalding (1997) and wife of 37 years, Frances Thompson (1977). He is survived by several nieces and nephews. Memorial Service at Christ Episcopal Church, Coronado on Tuesday April 7 at 9:30 a.m. followed by inurnment at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery with full Military Honors at 11 a.m. Donations in lieu of flowers to Marine Military Academy, Harlington, TX 78550 or Marines Memorial Club, 609 Sutter St., San Francisco, CA 94102.
