The best father, grandfather, husband, co-worker, friend and film editor has left us to morn his passing.
David was an honored film editor and cinematographer who was a proud husband and father, and grandfather and best working partner anyone could ask for.
I started working with David back in 1976 as his assistant film editor. During the many years of our association, we shared efforts on the following films and TV shows: The Buddy Holly Story 1978, In God We Trust 1980, The Competition (which David was nominated for an Academy Award), Under the Rainbow 1982, Smoky and the Bandit 3, DC Cab 1983, Ghost Busters 1984, Fast Forward 1985, Hell Hunters 1986, Psycho III 1986, Moonwalker with Michael Jackson 1988, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz – 50 Years of Magic 1990, Key West the series – the pilot and producer, Bob Hope – the First 90 years, and 5 years as editor on Hercules – The Legendary Journeys and many other shows.
David was awarded the ACE – Academy of Cinema Editors Lifetime Achievement Award and the award was presented to him by Nancy Sinatra – David was the editor of her special that proceeded the MTV generation of music videos.
David was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease several years ago and worked hard to fight the disease until the end.
He's survived by his wife, Annie, daughter Risa (Steve) Bastian, and granddaughter Annabel who just turned six years of age.
He leaves behind many friends…Auntie Esther, Uncle Jim – I'm that Jim, Gay and Stu, Robin and Don and many Producers, Directors, fellow editors and friends…
Note: Although David never met him, his cousin (by marriage) is Joe Biden, the Vice President.
God Bless You David…your soul has inspired so many over the years of your life. You are loved and missed.
You Assistant Editor for 35 years -- Jim
