Born Dec. 27, 1921, in Tacoa, Ga., he was the son of the late John Henry and Irene Dean Oglesby.
Mr. Oglesby was a coal miner and a member of New Salem Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Margaret Luvenia Oglesby; two sons, Luther D. Oglesby Jr. and Keith Crews; a daughter, Doris Ely; a sister, Lula Jackson; and a brother, James Ray Oglesby.
Survivors include five sons, Wayne L. Oglesby and his wife, Ann, of Beckley, Marshall D. Oglesby and his wife, Jannie, of Waldorf, Md., Delbert R. Oglesby and his wife, Zevonia, of Beckley, Michael L. Oglesby and his wife,
Bertha, of Crab Orchard and Gary D. Oglesby and his wife, Evelyn, of Norfolk, Va.; two daughters, Emily D. Rogers and her husband, Shawn, of Beckley and Dora A. Daniels and her husband, Kenneth, of Sophia; 37grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Oscar Oglesby of Hickory, N.C., Clyde Oglesby and his wife, Jannie, of Washington and George Oglesby and his wife, Jessie, of Hickory, N.C.; six sisters, Zora Glenn and her husband, Ernest, of Hickory, Ovis Mitchell and her husband, Joseph, of Sparta, Tenn., Heneretta Kennedy of Hickory, Dorothy Camp and her husband, William, of Hickory, Hattie Thompson and her husband, June, of Hickory and Ruby Hunt of Hickory; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Heart of God Ministries, 1703 S. Kanawha St., Beckley, with the Rev. Donald D. Cook and Bishop Fred T. Simms officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Beckley.
Friends may call one hour before services Thursday at the church.
