Paul was the oldest of seven children born to Charlie Thurmond and Ollie D. (Williams) Burgess. He married Marceal Ganelle Scott.

PLEASANT GARDEN - Mr. Paul Woodrow Burgess, 87, of 1469 Talbot Road, died Friday, March 3, 2000, at Moses Cone Hospital.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 5, 2000, in Guilford Memorial Park, with the Rev. Ken Culberson and the Rev. Gordon Miller officiating.
Mr. Burgess was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was retired from Freeman Ford and Smith Motor Co. He attended Christ Wesleyan Church in Greensboro.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Marceal Scott Burgess of the home; his sisters, Lois Caudle of Liberty and Ruth Novak of Valrico, Fla.; and brother, Dean Burgess of Staley.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, March 4, 2000, at Loflin Funeral Home in Liberty.
