James Albert Armstrong Jr., 62, died Sunday, March 30, 1997, at Columbia Putnam Medical Center following a long illness.
Born in Manning, he had lived in Franklin, N.C., for the one and a half years coming from Goodlettsville, Tenn. where he lived for six years. He had previously lived in Clewiston for 25 years and was associated with the Goodyear Store in Clewiston as a manger and co-owner. He was a U.S. Army veteran and had attended Christ Independent Methodist Church in Palatka. He was a member of the Iotla Baptist Church in Franklin and was a former member of the First Baptist Church of Goodlettsville, the First Baptist Church of Clewiston, the First Baptist Church of Hilliard and the First Baptist Church of St. George, Ga. He was also a member of the Sugarland Masonic Lodge #228 F&AM in Clewiston, the Scottish Rite, the Araba Shrine Club in Ft.Myers, and the Eastern Star Chapter #220 in Clewiston.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Barbara K. Armstrong of Franklin, N.C.; sons, James Kirby "Jimmy" Armstrong of Clewiston and William "Dennis" Armstrong Sr. of Plantation; brothers, Howard H. Armstrong and Robert E. "Ed" Armstrong, both of Jacksonville, John F. "Fred" Armstrong of Callahan, and Richard Armstrong of Palatka; sisters, Eunice Mott and Edna Hodges, both of Callahan, Mary E. "Libby" Lyons of Decatur, Ga., Florine Williams of Satsuma, and Joyce Davis of Hilliard; and five grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service is 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Callahan with Rev. Steve Reeves and Rev. Amos Price officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Hilliard.
