Mr. Joe Gibson died at his home on Watson Heights on Saturday night April 17, 1920 at 10:45 p.m. from cancer of the jaw. His first intimation of trouble was in April 1919 when a knot developed under the right side of his face. He took treatment at Charlotte and made 5 trips to Baltimore to specialists for the radium treatment but to no avail. He bore his suffering with patience that was ever charactistic of the man.

The funeral was conducted from the residence Monday afternoon by Rev. A.L. Ormand with interment in Eastside Cemetey. The pall bearers were T.B. Baxley, George S Steele, George P Entwistle, J. Legrand Everett, and H.C. Watson . All his children were present except Mrs. Hobson Johnson of Thomasville, Ga.

Mr. Gibson was born Feb 7, 1859 near Gibson MIlls in this county. In January 1880, he married Miss

Elizabeth Terry daughter of Mrs. Fannie Terry both of whom are still living. In 1900 they moved to Rockingham where Mr. Gibson clerked for T. L. Covington & Co. In 1905 he became bookkeeper for H.C. Watson and faithfully fulfilled that position until his poor health of the last several months necescitated his retirement.

In addition to his wife, there are 7 children: W.L. Gibson of Cheraw, O.G. Gibson of Lemon Springs, Mrs. John Nichols of Rockingham, J.P. Gibson of Rocky Mount, H Carslile Gibson of Rockingham, Mrs. Hobson Johnson of Thomasville, Ga and Miss Dell Gibson of Rockingham. 2 sons, Gentry and Floyd are dead - Gentry dying November 8, 1917 and Floyd dying February 16, 1919.
