Ruth was the daughter of Argalous Norman Clark and Sarah Kearns. She and Issac were married October 31, 1862.

She had led a hard life with Isaac. They started out living in a dugout in the side of a hill in Blue Earth Valley shortly after their marriage in Minnesota. They lived this way in a dugout along the banks of the river. Two of her children were born there. In 1867, they moved by wagon to Johnson Co, Missouri. They took her 20-month-old sister with them to raise as her mother had died and left the girl. They bought a farm in Chase County from her brother, Vane Clark. Ruth Ellen died of kidney and heart disease. Isaac moved again and again after her death.

They had 10 children as follows:

Mrs. Albin, wife of I. D. Albin of Toledo, Chase county, was found dead in bed Sunday morning. The day before she was feeling better than usual and had been shopping in Emporia. For some time Mrs. Albin has been troubled with dropsy and heart disease but her death Sunday morning was wholly unexpected. She was 57 years of age and leaves a husband and eight children. The funeral was held at Toledo Sunday evening.
