William James Hicks May 12, 1917-June 27, 2009 Bill passed away June 27, 2009, at the age of 92. He was born in Danville, Illinois. Prior to serving in the Navy for six years during World War II, he left home to work in the Work Progress Administration, sending money home to support his family. While in the Navy, he met his future wife, Florence, with whom he was married for 63 years until she passed away in 2008. They made their home in Santa Clara where they raised their two daughters, Pam and Deb. Bill worked for PG&E until his retirement in 1973 and was an active lifelong member of the Elks, Odd Fellows and American Legion. Bill's family was the highlight of his life and is survived by his daughters Pam Olevson (Ken) of Sunnyvale, California, and Deb Delong (Ron) of Boise, Idaho. He has five loving grandchildren, Andrea Dietrich, Monica Marsh, Bob (Jennifer) Olevson, Jimmy Olevson, and Jeff Olevson. He also has five loving great-grandchildren, Kris Etter, Taylor Marsh, Katie Marsh, Wyatt Olevson and Collin Olevson. Bill loved his family more than anything. He was a loving husband, a wonderful Dad, a fantastic Grandpa and a terrific great-Grandpa. He will be missed by his family and friends. Private services will be held July 17. He will be interred next to Florence at the Santa Clara Mission Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society for research purposes.
