Mrs. Cullen

Mrs. Bessie M. Cullen, 78, former house mother for Kappa Alpha Order at Birmingham Southern College, died Monday, at a local hospital.
Mrs. Cullen, who was an active church worker at McCoy Methodist Church, lived at 755 Ninth Ave., West.
A Limestone County native, she was a long-time resident of Birmingham.
Mrs. Cullen was the widow of Harold Dempster Cullen, former employee in the advertising department of The Birmingham News who died in February. She also had a son and a grandson who were employed by The News.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Johns-Ridout's Elmwood Chapel, with the Rev. John D. Perkins officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood.
She is survived by four sons, Harold F. Cullen and C. Lawrence Cullen, both of Birmingham, Herbert L. Cullen, Silver Spring, Md., and Frank H. Cullen of Bloomfield Hills, Mich.; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Active pallbearers will be Bill Battle, Travis Fleming, Harold Carter, Derwood Norris, Maxey Gabberts, Jack Webb and H. B. Englebert.
