She was the daughter of Pryor and Rebecca (McBee) Hurst.

In the spring of 1842 when she was just a small girl she made the journey, with her parents, from east Tennessee to western Missouri.

An adventuresome group of pioneers, including the young Pryor Hurst family, made crude houseboats on the Clinch river. Loading household goods, seeds for planting, some livestock etc. and then they floated down to the Mississippi River.

Here they boarded a steamer and went up the Mississippi to St Louis and on up the Missouri river to Buchanan Co. Missouri to about where St Joseph is today.

In a couple of years this Hurst family decided they were homesick and that they did not like Missouri. They packed their belongings in wagons and returned to Tennessee.

Emily then grew to adulthood in Clairborne county, Tennessee and married there, 31 Mar 1859, to Drury Harrell "Drew" Rosenbalm.

She had two small children when her husband marched off to war for the confederate cause. She made do with what she had and they raised a large family of 6 girls and 5 boys.

To be nearer their children they moved to Cass County, Missouri in October of 1920. It was noted in her obit. that she was survived by 8 of her children; 57 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren.
