Mrs. Kathleen E. Smelas, 91, of Edison died yesterday in John F. Kennedy Medical Center, Edison.

A Mass will be offered at 12:15 p.m. tomorrow in St. Francis of Assisi Cathedral, Metuchen, following the funeral from the Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 568 Middlesex Ave., Metuchen.

Mrs. Smelas served as president of the St. Mary's High School Parent-Teacher Association in South Amboy.

She was an honorary member of the Altar Rosary Society of St. Francis of Assisi Cathedral, where she was also a charter member of the St. Francis Seniors.

Born in East Palestine, Ohio, Mrs. Smelas lived in South Amboy and Metuchen before moving to Edison.

She married A. W. Smelas on November 28, 1934. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Lillian Quilter; a brother, Thomas Quilter, and a sister, Mary Quilter.

The epitome of mother and grandmother, she had special love in her heart for each one.
