Elbert Russell Horton age, 94, of 6932 Surl Mt. Tirzah Road, who died Friday, July 9, 2010 at the Veteran Administration Hospital in Durham will be conducted at 1:00 PM, Sunday, July 11, 2010 in the Brooks & White Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Hal Dickerson and the Rev. Alfred Snipes. Burial will be in the Timberlake Baptist Church cemetery on Surl Mt. Tirzah Road.
Mr. Horton was a native of Person County, the son of the late Aldean Wilson and Minnie Lee Whitfield Horton. His late wife was Mattie Hines Horton. His late sister was Foy Mae Horton Whitfield and his late brothers were Earl Bradsher Horton, James Boyd (J.B.) Horton, and Thomas Aldean Horton.
Surviving are his brother Coy Whitfield Horton, and 15 nieces and nephews, many family members, and friends. He was retired from Collins and Aikman Corporation.
He was a World War II veteran, having served with the Americal Division in the Pacific. He was a member of the American Legion Post 138.
Pallbearers will be Patrick Jacques, Arthur Tillet, Tony Gentry, Robert Rimmer, Guerrant Matthews, Tommy Harris, Thomas Chandler, and Richard Jeffrey.
Visitation will be from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM Saturday, July 10, 2010 in the Brooks & White Funeral Home.
