Dolph was first buried in the Chattanooga National Cemetery. After his wife moved to Sumerset she had his remains moved to the cemetery near her. This is also where their children are buried.

Obituary: OAKDALE NATIVE DIES IN CHATTANOOGA
J.A. (Dolph) Coffman, a native of Morgan County, died Saturday January 16, 1965 in his home in Chattanooga of a heart attack. He was 62.

Mr. Coffman, an employee of the Southern Railroad Company since he was 16 years old, was Diesel Shop Foreman in the railroad company yards in Chattanooga. He was a member of the Treemont Baptist Church of Chattanooga, where funeral services were held Monday. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

Mr. Coffman was born near Oakdale the son of the late W.A. and Sarah Honeycutt Coffman. He had been away from Morgan County since 1919.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Gladys Whitley Coffman, a daughter, Mrs. John McKenzie of Chattanooga, a son, Charles T. Coffman of Sumerset, Kentucky; one grandchild; one brother, Everett Coffman of Oakdale; five sisters, Mrs Lola Ferguson of Oakdale, Mrs. Huse (Blanche) Watson of the Pine Orchard Community, Mrs Cecilia Stringfield of Danville, Kentucky; and Mrs Grace Satterfield of Cincinnati, Ohio; three half-sisters, Mrs. Geraldine Bolling of Toledo, Ohio, Ora Lee Coffman and Leliah Mae Coffman of Boswell Chapel Community near Oakdale; three half-brothers, Henry and Walter Coffman and step-mother, Mrs. Ona Coffman, all of the Boswell Chapel Community near Oakdale. Another half-brother, Hige Coffman lives in San Diego, Calif.
