Johann "John" Peter Long was a son of Ludwick Long and Marey Elizabeth Scholl. He married Elizabeth Worman of Tinicum Township, Bucks Co., PA. They had the following known children during their marriage: Catherine, John Ludwig, Elizabeth (died in infancy), Mary, Susannah, Peter, and Elizabeth.

John Peter Long enrolled as an "Associator" (Militia) in Bucks Co., PA on August 10, 1775. He took the Oath of Allegiance before John Davis, Esq. and saw several months of service in the Ninth Pennsylvania Continental Line under Captain John Davis.

John Peter and Elizabeth Long were members of St. Luke's Lutheran Church of Nockamixon during the pastorate of Rev. John Conrad Yeager. He served as an elder and was a member of the building committee to erect the Nockamixon Union Church in 1812.
