Hans was the son of Christen Jorgensen (1784-1858) and Ellen Pedersdatter (1788-1870).
Hans married Karen Kristine"Stine" Petersen (1830-1920) on February 28, 1854 in Kundby Parish, Holbaek Co., Denmark.
They emigrated to America in 1858, landing in New York City. This immigration was undoubtedly encouraged by his brother George C. Christenson (1817-1891) who had immigrated to Wisconsin in 1851. Hans and Karen made their way across to Pine River, Waushara Co., Wisconsin, to be near his brothers family. About 1867 Hans and his brothers family removed to Grundy Co., Iowa, where they resided until 1874, when they came west to Oregon. They originally removed to a farm near Amity. Not too long after that, they moved again to the Chahalem Valley, where Hans built the house at the junction of the North and South Valley Roads, ½ mile west of Newberg. This house is located on the present Tangen Road. Later he purchased a large farm and built the big square house now owned by Victor Durran and his wife Marabelle (Cammack) Durran located on King’s Grade Road. He and his wife became members of the Baptist Church at Carlton in 1883. In 1886 they became charter members of the Chehalem Valley Baptist Church and later identified themselves with the Baptist Church of Newberg. Hans was described as being a Christian gentleman of modest demeanor, but maintained a high standard of sterling, integrity and his life had been an example of steadfast loyalty to the principles of his church. For many years they resided on a farm in West Chehalem, west of Newberg, Oregon. However, ill health forced them to leave their farm and move into Newberg. Hans died October 22, 1907 at his home in Newberg, Oregon, and was buried at the Noble Cemetery west of Newberg.
