He was born in Lubaczola, Galicna, Austria(Ukrania). He was a Brick Layer by trade and immigrated to the United States in about 1910 via Canada.

His First Civil Marriage took place before 1909 in Berlin,, Germany to Mary Kishka. The Religious ceremony took place at St John's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Detroit, MI on May 15, 1918.

His public Death Certificate has an error which states he was born in 1891.

He and Mary had Nine Children; Pauline, John, Micheal, Katherine, Mary, Katie, Sophie, Jenny, and Olga.
