John Q. Greenleaf was the son of Frederick Greenleaf and Beady Pittman. He was born in 1831 in Marion Co, MS. He married Sarah P. Evans on 19 May 1856 in Harrison Co, MS. The family moved from Mississippi to Louisiana about 1858. John and Sarah were the parents of: Susan Greenleaf (4 Mar 1857), Frederick "Bud" Greenleaf (16 Jun 1859), Martha Carolina Greenleaf (1862), Elizabeth B. Greenleaf (7 Sep 1965), Emily "Emma" Greenleaf (16 Jul 1869). John D. Greenleaf (1872), and William David Greenleaf (20 Dec 1873).
