Funeral Saturday for Prominent 81-Year-Old Local Woman

Mrs. Mathilda Sprunger, 81, widow of Emil Sprunger, died at 4:35 pm Wednesday at Swiss Village west of Berne where she had been a resident since August 23. She was bedfast the past six weeks and had ailed the past year. Death was attributed to carcinoma. Her condition was critical for several days before her passing.
Mrs. Sprunger, a lifelong resident of this community, resided at 218 Center Street before moving to Swiss Village.
Surviving are seven sons, Norman Sprunger, Fort Wayne; Eli, Melvin, Tillman, Clifford, Raymond and Leroy, all of Berne; five daughters, Mrs. LaVire (Inez) Patterson, Mrs. Loris (Edith) Minger and Mrs. Alton (Esther) Biberstein, all of Berne; Mrs. Francis (Minnie) Basinger, Bluffton, Ohio and Miss Miriam Sprunger, Fort Wayne; 30 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. L. B. (Meta) Sharp, North Webster and a half-sister, Miss Ida Hirsch, Berne.
A brother, Norman and a half-sister, Mrs. Omen (Selma) Amstutz, are deceased.
Mrs. Sprunger was a member of the First Missionary Church where services will be held at 10 am Saturday. Rev. Gerald Gerig and Rev. Gareth Wiederkehr will officiate and burial will be in the MRE Cemetery.
The body is at the Yager Funeral Home where friends may call.
Preferred memorials are gifts to the mission fund of the First Missionary Church.
