Reuben J. Meyer dies at Monroe

Reuben J. Meyer, 80, a retired railroad telegraph operator and oil company agent, died at 4:45 p.m. Monday at his home, 114 West Washington Street, Monroe, following an extended illness.

He was born in French township Jan. 26, 1892, a son of Henry and Bertha Gehrig-Meyer, and was married to Mabel O. Hocker Feb. 13, 1913.

Mr. Meyer was a telegraph operator for the G. R. & t. railroad for 10 years and was a Standard Oil agent for 20 years.

He was a 50-year member of Decatur lodge 571, F&AM.

Surviving are his wife; one sister, Mrs. Lovina Allspaw of Berne, and one brother, Edward W. Meyer of Tacoma, Wash. One brother is deceased.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Winteregg-Linn funeral home, with Rev. William C. Feller officiating. Burial will be in MRE cemetery at Berne. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Wednesday until time of the services.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Winteregg-Linn funeral home for Reuben J. Meyer, who died late Monday afternoon at this home in Monroe. Rev. William C. Feller will officiate, and burial will be in the MRE cemetery at Berne

Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. today. Masonic services will be held at 7:30 this evening.

Funeral Thursday for Lifelong Resident of County

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Thursday at the Winteregg-Linn Funeral Home in Decatur for Reuben J. Meyer, 80, 114 West Washington Street, Monroe, who died at his home at 4:45 pm Monday following an extended illness.

Rev. William C. Feller will officiate at the service and burial will be in the MRE Cemetery.

Mr. Meyer was a lifelong resident of Adams County and lived in Monroe for many years. He was a retired telegraph operator for the Grand Rapid and Indiana Railroad where he worked ten years, and also retired as a Standard Oil agent in Monroe where he was employed 20 years. He was a 50-year member of the Decatur Lodge F&AM 571.
